I am a writer, storyteller, and translator. I live in Colombia’s Coffee Region with my husband, daughters, and dogs where I drink too much coffee and cannot get Cheerios.
I have Basque/Norwegian heritage and grew up making chorizos in the garage, kringle & lefse for Christmas, and went to Basque dancing classes at the JT in Gardnerville. Basque sheepherders left messages, carvings, art in the Aspen trees all over Nevada. (This was probably a great uncle of mine!)
My first lit loves were Ramona the Pest and Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising series.
I have lived and backpacked to over 25 countries around the world. So, if you need to know about the best way to see the world on $10.00/day, let me know. (I also know which countries have the scratchiest toilet paper. These things are important)
I live in the Colombia Coffee Region (Pereira!), have met the Real Juan Valdez and el Cole (the Birdman) (see below), am a bit obsessed with the Panini Album for the World Cup every four years, and love empanadas (Who doesn’t, right?).
My daughters speak English with a little Colombian accent.
I love going to the movies alone.
October is my favorite month. Halloween and Nevada Day are my favorite holidays. Colombia does not celebrate Nevada Day. This is distressing.
My husband used to collect and cultivate heliconias. He named one after me. (Heliconia Heidi … see over there —->). I think this is pretty incredible.
No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself. -- Virginia Woolf
